Commercial FAQ

What are the differences between light, basic, and high-end retouching?

The differences between light, basic, and high-end retouching in photography lie in the complexity and level of detail applied during post-production. Here’s a breakdown of what each entails:

  • Light Retouching: Minor tweaks for a natural look, focuses on small blemishes and color adjustments.
  • Basic Retouching: Moderate adjustments for a polished yet natural appearance, including light skin smoothing and more cleanup.
  • High-End Retouching: Detailed, artistic, and flawless results, often used in commercial photography, with complex skin, lighting, and feature enhancements.

The difference between corporate portraits and staff photos comes down to the purpose, style, and presentation of the images. Here’s how they differ:

Corporate Portraits
  • Purpose: Corporate portraits are typically used for high-profile professional purposes, such as executive bios, press releases, speaking engagements, or LinkedIn profiles. They aim to present individuals in a polished, professional, and leadership-driven light.
  • Style: These portraits are often more formal and stylized, with controlled lighting, carefully chosen backdrops, and professional retouching. The subject may be posed to highlight their authority, personality, and confidence, often wearing formal business attire.

Staff Photos
  • Purpose: Staff photos are generally used to showcase the broader workforce on websites, internal directories, or team introductions. The goal is to present a cohesive and approachable team image.
  • Style: Staff photos tend to be more straightforward and casual, often shot in consistent settings, such as a simple backdrop or the office environment. They may be individual headshots of employees or group/team photos. Attire is often business casual, and the focus is on presenting the staff as approachable and part of the company culture.

In short, corporate portraits focus on executive leadership with a more formal and polished look, while staff photos are designed to represent the entire team in a consistent, often more casual style.

We try to schedule a scouting location session at least 1 week before a photoshoot.

This allows sufficient time for us to assess the location and make necessary adjustments based on lighting needs, access restrictions, or logistical considerations.

If permits or permissions are needed for certain locations (especially public or high-traffic areas), this window gives time to secure them without delaying the shoot.
